background tunes

I love the original piece and think this has some really good moments ( :57 in particular is the start of an awesome moment). But it felt like one HUGE intro till 2:40 which is when everything comes together and belts the classic tune of O Fortuna. It was actually really awesome from then on and I liked it a lot. If you could go back and extend on that part to the end (maybe what you have now be an intro to a faster paced remix or something) then you could have something REALLY good here.

Kudos

A tribute to one of the finest games on PS1

This remains the best game I played on the PS1, and remains one of my favorite games of all time. This may not be the best boss fight in the game, but it was certainly one of the better songs. An incredibly well done tribute to the game and music. Cheers!

so simple yet it worked great

I can't wholesomely give this a ten because it feels so simple. But then again that's why it worked so PERFECTLY for Neverending Light. The simple combination of piano and strings is timeless but seems so fresh in this iteration. Also congrats on having your song used in the "#1" flash portal piece on Newgrounds (at time of this review).

Chrispington responds:

Yeah it's all about context, which I think is why the audio portal is a bit screwed, since most users only judge the music subjectively.
Considering the audio portal is meant for flash soundtracks, this is totally counterproductive.

Thanks for the review

relaxing but pretty basic

makes for good background, but not anything particularly special here. I have no idea why its so high up the charts. Still not bad, could've used some more depth or layers of sound. Overall a decent loop, that probably should not be so highly ranked.

Blasphem-E responds:

Lol, it got up top by complete dumb luck. I'm well aware that it is not super amazing and shouldn't be here. But as I've said many times, I'll take it. Thanks for the review though

sounded like something out of an old RPG

Liked it, brought memories of an old Zelda game or something, I could see this used in a game on Newgrounds or something.

One flaw I had was that it felt that the last second could have been cut, it seems to break the near flawless pattern of the loop.

Wow nice

I've heard the original before and thought it was a funny song, but not much for song quality. This was actually really great! Loved how you did the lyrics too.

Awesome!

Darren-M responds:

wow thank you, i worked hard on mixing it. it was tons of fun to sing too!

nice ambiance

a bit basic but does a very good job of setting a dark or dangerous area. For all intents and purposes I like it.

thanks

My argument for best VG song

seriously, I love this song, it takes both music and sound effects from a classic piece of gaming history and makes an incredible song. Even from a technical standpoint the song triumphs like no other with the music jumping to both sides of my headphones, its songs like this that inspire me to do some of my own work, this is a great song dude.

dude, another interesting piece

good loop piece, the use of a string theme worked well.

lol sweet

its funny because I can recognize nearly all of the pieces from garageband but I never would have envisioned them so well mixed together into one crazy song. kudos mate

I was really surprised myself by the catchiness
